Chimney Hollow Dam is the first large embankment-dam constructed in the US with a Hydraulic Asphalt Core (HAC).
This report has been prepared using test data collected during the construction of the HAC.
The first purpose of this paper is to establish that laboratory testing of the HAC can be performed using either ASTM or EN Standards and comply with the precision and bias requirements within the ASTM standards.
The second purpose of this paper is to establish that the electromagnetic densometer is the best option for testing in-place density due to the gauges predictability and better bias when compared to drilled-cores.
