The ASDSO EPIC Task Group in conjunction with representatives of National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM), the NASEM PMP Study Committee and NOAA Physical Sciences Laboratory (PSL) will provide updates on the NASEM Modernizing Probable Maximum Precipitation Estimation Study. The NASEM PMP study began in October of 2022 and is legislatively required to be completed by October of 2024. Members of the NASEM PMP Study Committee are interested in sharing their perspective including the study process and findings and recommendations upon which NOAA PSL will advance PMP estimation methodology and tools to replace HMR’s nationwide. NOAA PSL representatives would also like to describe the work that has been done to build a team to modernize PMP and share their thoughts on advancing the NASEM PMP Study Committee findings and recommendations.
The EPIC Task Group will moderate and the NASEM representatives will describe the legislatively mandated PMP study process, NASEM PMP Committee members will describe the PMP study process from their perspective as well as major findings and recommendations, and NOAA PSL representatives present NOAA’s work in preparing for PMP methodology modernization, and their plans to modernize PMP estimation methodology following the legislatively mandated schedule.
