One of the greatest challenges for the civil and construction industry over the next decade will be the shortage of qualified engineers. While the engineering industry has been raising awareness about the shortage of engineers in the U.S. for years, there has not been adequate action taken to increase the supply of engineers sufficiently to meet the demand. As a result, the shortage of engineers is having significant impacts on the delivery of federal infrastructure projects. This presentation will review the magnitude of the engineer shortage problem, discuss the real impacts this is having from a federal infrastructure perspective, and discuss actions that industry must take to remedy the problem.
