Dave Gillette is a geotechnical engineer with nearly 40 years of practice behind him. He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Case Western Reserve University, focused on structural engineering, and master's and PhD in geotechnical engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Dave has recently retired from 34 years at the Bureau of Reclamation's Technical Service Center here in Denver, where most of his work was related to the safety of embankment dams, including seismic, seepage, stability, and probabilistic risk analysis, and design of modifications for dams that did not measure up. He is the author of Reclamation's Design Standard for seismic analysis and design of embankment dams, and was on the Dam Safety Advisory Team and the Risk Cadre. He also provided dam-safety training for Reclamation and other agencies in the US and abroad.
Prior to Reclamation, he worked for Bromwell and Carrier, Inc. in Lakeland, Florida where most of his work was on mine tailings management and tailings dams, and mined-land reclamation. Since Reclamation, he has been sleeping late, fixing up his house, and doing a little consulting on seismic analysis of dams.
