Daniel A. Vellone, M.S., P.G., CPG serves as the Dam Safety Program Manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District. He serves as primary technical advisor to the Dam Safety Officer/Engineering Division Chief and is responsible for the day-to-day program management. Sacramento’s $8.4M (FY23) Dam Safety Program includes 17 high-hazard flood control, water supply, hydropower dams and associated reservoirs in California’s Central Valley. In addition, he actively serves as a SME on national HQUSACE teams and workgroups focused on the Corps Civil Works mission. Over the course of his 25+ year career, he has supported over 100 dam safety and water resource structures in 15 States bringing experience in inspection, evaluation, PFMA/SQRA/QRA risk assessments, design, and construction in support of operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation. In addition, he serves on the adjunct faculty at Worcester State University concurrent with professional engagements. His awards include the Army Civilian Service Achievement Medal, Worcester State University Adjunct Excellence in Teaching Award, NRCS Dedicated Service Award, ASCE Metropolitan Section Geo-Institute Chapter Golden Apple Award, and the AEG Douglas R. Piteau Outstanding Younger Member Award. He is a lifetime member of the Army Engineer Association, American Rock Mechanics Association, American Geosciences Institute, and the U.S. Society on Dams, and a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Association of State Dam Safety Officials.
