Ms. Torres has worked for the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) of the United States Army Corps of Engineers as a research geologist since 1994. As a geologist her research experience includes geomorphological analysis; site characterization; geophysical and geotechnical subsurface investigations; assessment of geotechnical characteristics of soil; river geomorphology, streambank erosion. She also provided geological, geotechnical, and logistical reach back support with Afghanistan, Egypt, and Iraq mission Projects. Ms. Torres has been responsible for developing and teaching training courses and workshops for the Corps of Engineers as facilitator/instructor for the USACE Earthwork Quality Verification PROSPECT Course, the USACE Dam Safety PROSPECT Course and the USACE CRS 31 Dam Safety Program Management PROSPECT Course and has been certified as required by NHI and IMCOM to be part of Bridge Inspection teams and as Bridge Inspection Team Leader, and for Dam Safety Inspection teams. Her most recent research has been on riverbank erosion, culvert inspections and soil embankment erosion. She has been a member of inter-laboratory research teams with the Environmental, Structural, Coastal and Hydraulics and Cold Regions Laboratories of the ERDC.
Ms. Torres graduated from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) at Rio Piedras with a BS in Geography in 1987. In 1993 she graduated with a MS in Marine Geology from UPR at Mayaquez. Currently Ms. Torres is an active member of the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO), the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).
