Matthew A. Taylor, P.E is a Principal/Senior Vice President in GZA’s Norwood office with over 29 years of engineering experience. He is currently serving as GZA’s Dams, Levees, and Hydropower Practice Leader. He holds a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and an MS in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) from Northeastern University. He is a registered professional engineer in MA, CT, ME, RI, NJ, and NY. He is a FERC-approved Independent Consultant and PFMA/L2RA Facilitator for Part 12D dam safety inspections. His dam engineering duties include dam and levee safety inspections; subsurface explorations and instrumentation installation programs; seepage and slope stability analyses of embankment dams and gravity stability analyses and 2-D and 3-D finite element analyses for concrete and masonry dams; design of dam rehabilitation and dam removal; Emergency Action Plans preparation and training; FERC hydropower relicensing, small hydropower feasibility studies; preparation of plans and specifications; preparation of permit applications; and construction oversight and administration for dam rehabilitation and dam removal projects. He is a past chair of the BSCES Geo-Institute and the EBC Dam Management Committee. He is a member of the Association of State Dam Safety Officials, US Society on Dams and National Hydropower Association.
