Executive Vice-President
McMillen
Mort McMillen is the founder of McMillen, Inc., a full-service engineering and construction firm known for providing comprehensive water resources solutions. Mort has an extensive background in heavy civil projects; dam removal and ecosystem restoration; hydropower and pumped storage; fish hatcheries, trap and haul, and fish passage structures; water/wastewater systems; and parks and recreational areas. He has managed multidisciplinary teams from early planning through design, to construction, testing, and commissioning.
Mort has completed major dam modifications of over 40 dams and developed entirely new hydroelectric or pumped storage facilities from 4 MW to 1,800 MW. Elements of work have included powerhouse structures, demo and decommissioning, procurement of major equipment, and installation of all mechanical and electrical systems. Beyond the powerhouse, Mort brings expertise in debris management systems, complex in-the-wet trash rack structures, spillways, large intakes and outlets, concrete repairs, and water conveyance systems, including vaults, valves, gates, hoists/cranes, and penstocks. His projects have included the integration of hydroelectric, solar, and pumped storage solutions.
Mort has led more than 10 dam removal projects over the past three decades. He is currently the Owner’s Representative/Program Manager for North America’s largest dam removal and restoration project—the Klamath River Renewal Project. Mort brings a unique understanding of dam design and stability considerations to develop strategies that balance a cost-effective removal process with environmental and natural resource protection measures.
