Poster Lightning Talks FAQs
- Do I need a PowerPoint? Yes, you will need to provide a PPT for your lightning talk.
- Do I need to submit a conference paper if I am doing a poster-lighting talk? It is up to you. Poster-lightning talk presenters, just like session presenters, can self-select if they are going to submit a paper for the conference proceedings. While it is up to the presenter, it is highly encouraged that all poster-lightning talk presenters submit a conference paper.
- How long should my poster-lightning talk be? The Lightning Talks are very short, three-minute oral presentations, focused on the most significant points in your poster topic. Questions are answered at the poster board and attendees come by after the lightning talk portion and throughout the week.
- What are the size recommendations/formatting guidelines for the poster? The poster session is primarily a visual presentation (as contrasted with an oral one), therefore it is appropriate to prepare charts, graphs, photos, and drawings to convey the message of the presentation. Use bold colors and short, descriptive captions that will enhance the viewers’ understanding of the project or issue. Pages of text attached to the display board will not be effective. Posters may be one large panel or several smaller panels. If using several smaller panels, they should be designed to be easily arranged on the display board during set-up. Mounting board should be cardboard or heavyweight paper that provides sufficient rigidity. Each poster presenter will be provided with one 4’ tall by 7’10" wide tackboard on a stand. Please design your display to fit the space provided.
- How will my poster be displayed on site? The Poster-Lightning talk area is located in the exhibit hall. While each poster may look different, here are a few samples: Sample 1 • Sample 2 • Sample 3 • Sample 4 • Sample 5
- When do I set up my poster in the exhibit hall? Posters may be set up during exhibit hall set up on Monday, September 23 from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm MT. Posters will be displayed on both the front and back of 4'x7' tack boards.
